How to Reset the Oil Change Light on Your Ford Fiesta

Understanding the Oil Change Light

Your Ford Fiesta has a light on the dashboard that reminds you when it's time for an oil change. This light looks like an oil can and turns on after a certain number of miles or months have passed since your last oil change.

Once you've had your oil changed, you'll need to reset this light so it can track the next service interval. The light won't turn off on its own—you have to reset it manually.

Steps to Reset the Oil Change Light

Here's how to reset the oil change light on your Ford Fiesta:

  1. Turn on the ignition. Sit in the driver's seat and turn the key to the "On" position. Do not start the engine.
  2. Locate the reset button. Look at the turn signal stalk on the left side of your steering wheel. You should see a small button or lever near the base of this stalk.
  3. Press and hold the button. Press the reset button and hold it down for several seconds. You may see the oil change light on your dashboard blink or flash.
  4. Release when the light resets. Keep holding until the light goes out completely. This usually takes 5 to 10 seconds.
  5. Turn off the ignition. Once the light is off, turn the key back to the "Off" position.
  6. Start your engine. Turn the key to start the engine and verify the light stays off.

If the Light Won't Reset

If the oil change light doesn't turn off after you follow these steps, try this alternative method:

  1. Turn the ignition to the "On" position without starting the engine.
  2. Use the arrow buttons on your steering wheel (or the buttons on your dashboard) to navigate to the "Settings" or "Service" menu on your instrument cluster display.
  3. Look for an option that says "Oil Service" or "Reset Service."
  4. Select that option and confirm the reset when prompted.

Different model years of the Fiesta may have slightly different menu layouts, so check your owner's manual if you're unsure where to find these options.

Why Resetting Matters

Resetting the oil change light helps you stay on track with regular maintenance. Once reset, the light will turn on again when your next oil change is due, helping you remember to keep your engine running smoothly.

If you're not sure when your next oil change should be, check your owner's manual or ask your mechanic. Regular oil changes are one of the most important things you can do to keep your Fiesta in good working order.
